DOVETAIL Electric Aviation and CRISALION Mobility collaborate on battery systems for eVTOL Airframes

29/07/2024

Dovetail Electric Aviation, an Australian-Spanish pioneer in electric aviation, and Crisalion Mobility, a European leader in the development of efficient, safe, and sustainable electric mobility solutions, have today announced a collaboration towards the development of battery packs for application in electric aviation.
This strategic partnership marks a significant step forward in the electrification of air mobility. Dovetail, known for its expertise in converting conventional aircraft into electric and developing new electric aircraft concepts, has been developing sophisticated battery packs specifically for aviation applications. These battery packs, which comply with rigorous standards such as DO-311 and DO-160G, are designed to be fully certified under various regulatory environments including EASA, CASA, and FAA.

Crisalion, currently developing its Integrity eVTOL designed to accommodate up to five passengers and a pilot, has shown keen interest in Dovetail’s battery technology. Both companies are committed to working together to customize and further develop Dovetail’s battery modules to meet Crisalion’s specific performance and timeline requirements. The collaboration aims to optimize the battery packs for integration into eVTOL airframes, enhancing the performance and efficiency of their electric drivetrains. Dovetail will also be evaluating the battery technology currently being developed by Crisalion.

This collaboration is set to include a comprehensive integration process, where Dovetail will provide prototype battery modules for initial functional and integration testing. As per the agreement, following successful certification of Dovetail’s battery system, the partnership anticipates a potential further agreement for the supply of Dovetail’s battery systems to Crisalion.

This partnership underscores the commitment of both companies to innovation, sustainability, and the advancement of zero-emission aviation technologies. In addition to sharing resource and technological development, Crisalion and Dovetail are also exploring opportunities to access funding sources and grants within Spain and the EU to support their joint development efforts.

David Doral, Dovetail Electric Aviation’s CEO stated that “This agreement is a testament to the value of the technologies we are creating, for our own eCTOL conversions but also for eVTOL developers like Crisalion. Together we can accelerate the process of certifying and bringing new battery technologies to market, in a truly synergetic approach”.

Gustavo Rodriguez, Chief Technology Officer at Crisalion said “We are pleased to join forces with Dovetail to advance the development of safe and high-performance battery systems for electric aircraft. We look forward to collaborating closely in our shared commitment to zero emissions aviation.
